Sammy Baird joined the club in 1960. Vastly experienced, his role was largely to fill the void left by the departure of Bobby Johnstone and encourage the youngsters. An astute signing he reserved some of his best displays for the European nights.

Other clubs included Clyde, Preston North End and Stirling Albion.
