Jimmy O'Rourke was a cult hero of the 1960s/early 1970s who was also a 'penalty-king'. Controversially sold to St Johnstone in September 1974 to make way for Joe Harper.

Ironically in his first appearance back at Easter Road he scored the winner for the Saints in a 1-0 win on 28/09/1974.

Just to point out that Jimmy was not sold to St Johnstone He was a "free transfer" and got a signing on fee from St Johnstone I remember the game you mention, Jimmy at Easter Road I arrived a few minutes after k.o and Jimmy had already scored
While he was at Motherwell,Hibs tried to buy him back.'Well would not release him . He did eventually return as a coach orourke.73@googlemail.com

Jimmy scored on his return when playing for Motherwell as well. Fouled 25 yards out by John Blackley he stumbled to his knees, recovered his balance, then advanced to drive a shot into the far corner.
As a Pars fan I recall two goals against us: one from the right corner of the box kicking up the slope; the other a left foot volley at East End which nearly took John Lunn's head off.

Remember having a kick about with Jimmy and his brother Michael when Jimmy had a broken leg. Even when on crutches he could fairly hammer a ball with some force (ouch)
