On a day of mixed fortunes, Alan Gilzean scored four against Hibs and the club signed Irish internationalist John Parke from Linfield.

"Gilly" benefited hugely from the wing play of ex-Hibee Gordon Smith who set him up with three easy chances ; - he completed the rout via the penalty spot. (edited by moderator)

The game that Stanton talks about being in awe of Gordon Smith. I was there but don't remember it as being significant, although it was. Gordon's final ER appearance and the first time I ever saw Pat Stanton. The two best Hibs players of the past 100 years?
I remember leaving a couple of minutes early to meet my Dad and it wasn't until we got home that I realised that Dundee had a fourth.

First time I had seen an away player score 4 against us . Without checking I don't think it's ever been repeated to this day .
