Career :- Strathclyde/Hibernian/Man City May 1906/Partick Thistle June 1911-1912.
He replaced the injured McCartney (q.v.) for Hibs, who switched him to outside-left to accommodate John Campbell when the latter arrived from West Ham. George was speedy and his centres were beautifully accurate.

On December 9th 1912, a friendly match took place in Barcelona between Spanish players and foreign players who at had previously played in Catalan teams.
A player called “Stewart” participated as a forward in the foreigners’ team. Media from that period reported that he had been a player in the international Scottish team. Could he be George Stewart?.

Re the comment above and the Spanish game - I'd be interested to know more. There was another Stewart who was an international at the turn of the century William Stewart of Queens Park. There's not much information easily available to verify either played in Spain. I'll research further when I get a chance.
