1977 diary; went to the game, a sad state of affairs, we threw away 2 good points with Dundee United, Rangers and Aberdeen all losing

Hibs created chances galore in the first-half, but only had MacLeod's opener on 27 minutes to show for their efforts. After the break it was carelessness in defence that allowed Motherwell striker Willie Pettigrew to score twice.

Paterson replaced Duncan.

Referee :- W.D. Reid, Aberdeen.
