As a 7 or 8 year old in 1944/1945 we were returning from holiday in Girvan; when the train stopped at Troon Mitchell Downie got on and started to talk to us. He wase on his way to training at Easter Road, having cycled to Troon Station; got the train to Waverley and cycled to Easter Road; As a child I was fascinated to have met a real life footballer who and to this day I have been a Hibs fan

The goalie when I fist started watching Bradford City in 1959ish and apparently a perfect gentleman.
