First team debut Vs Berwick Rangers on 10/11/1971 in East of Scotland Shield (H 4-1).

Misc/trivia :- His move to the NASL arose as Derek had married Heather Munn, from Chicago, and had decided to emigrate to America.

He ended his playing career with Toronto Blizzard in 1984.
