Jim Brown joined the club in 1979, as a part-timer. A solid and reliable full-back he also worked in a finance company and was joint owner of a sports shop in Penicuik.

At Dunfermline his career was cut short after being the victim of a bad tackle by John Pelosi of St Johnstone - which ended in a court case.
