John Fraser, born in Portobello, joined the club in August 1954. He was initially an outside-right but gradually established himself as a Hibs favourite in defence. He was a consistent and steadying influence in that role.

After a short period with Stenhousemuir he returned to the club in August 1969 to look after the club's S-Form signings.
