Described in Paul Lunney's book "HIBERNIAN 1875-1975" (Tempus Publishing Ltd,2001) as "... arguably Hibs' greatest ever goalkeeper".

Also played for Arsenal, Fall River Marksmen, Boston Wonder Workers, New Bedford Whalers in the American Soccer League and latterly with Plymouth Argyle. (edited by moderator)

Willie Harper was my great uncle, two of my grandsons and a nephew are HUGE hibs fans who are puzzled and disbelieving when I explain this to them. My maternal grandmother (Flora Black nee Harper) was his sister and I actually met him a few times. Would it be possible to arrange a stadium tour for the young descendants.
Thanks
Maurice Taylor. (edited by moderator)

Willie was my great-grandad. After retiring whilst playing for Plymouth he worked there for a further 42 years as trainer, groundsman and laundryman. As tribute, he got to play a testimonial match against Arsenal in 1972, and they named their training ground (Harper's Park) after him, which still stands. Lived for a long time in Kirkliston. Also was one of Chapman's first Arsenal signings.
